Vastushastra

Vastu is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Vasati’ which means where we dwell in.  It is constructed with sand, bricks, cement, stones, woods etc.

‘Vaas’ is the most simple and commonly used term that states to  reside.  Indian Vastu Shastra is the Science used to build structures such as towns, Temples, business hubs.

Vastushastra is mentioned in Matsya Purana, Chapter 252 and further up to 270. 18 sages have registered the rules of this science in it. ‘Kashyap Vastu’ and ‘Bhrigu Vastu’ are more prevalent in North India while ‘Maya Vastu’ is in South India.

Dev Vishwakarma is called the architect of the gods and Mayasura the sculptor of demons. Sages expert in Architecture,  Gods and Demons were different though, however the rules of architecture were the same, only the methodology of work was different.

In Ramayana, Shri Rama could not protect Mother Sita from Ravana’s enchanting leela. One of the reasons for this is the ashram of Shri Rama on the river Godavari at Panchavati and the flow of a river flowing from west to south because there is a rule in Vastushastra that water flow should never be in the southwest direction of the building. Also, one of the consequences was observed that the worship of God is not done properly in temples or cities which are constructed in this direction of the river.

Mahabharata describes the Mayasabha built by Mayasura at Indraprastha, the capital of the Pandavas. The artificial lake built in the Brahmasthan is the pit and water in which Duryodhana inadvertently fell and the incident resulted in the battle of Kauravas and the Pandavas that destroyed the whole generation of Kauravas.

The basic concept of Vastu Shastra is to make similarities with nature i.e. the forces of nature e.g. Use the Panchmahabhuta / Panchatattva, the energy of the sun, the electromagnetic energy of the earth as well as the gravitational force of the earth and the eight directions for your happy and progressive life.

Everything that occurs is according to the principles of nature. It has a lasting harmony. Every element and their application is the same all over the universe.
